Privacy Policy

BackcountryPlanner is operated by Work With ACRE LLC. We use the information described here to provide your trip-planning account, keep your plans in sync, and protect the service.

Your account and plans

Google verifies your sign-in. We use your Google account identifier and display name; an email address may be used as the display name if Google does not provide one. We do not receive your Google password or access your Gmail, Drive, or contacts through sign-in.

Your profile contains what you enter: trip destinations and dates, body weight used in planning calculations, food preferences, food and gear libraries, packing checklists, and notes. Your saved profile is private to your account, not a public trip page.

Storage and your browser

Cloudflare hosts the app and stores your profile. The browser keeps a local copy so previously loaded plans can be used when the account service cannot be reached. A signed session cookie normally lasts up to 30 days. Signing out clears the planner’s local cache on that browser.

Our hosting and authentication providers process technical information, such as IP addresses, to deliver and secure their services. Rate controls use an IP address for sign-in attempts and your account identifier for signed-in requests. The planner code does not include advertising trackers.

Optional lookups and imports

When you look up a product, its URL is requested from that store. Product facts—including names, brands, weights, nutrition fields, and source URLs—can be saved in a shared catalog for other users. Catalog records do not include your account identifier, and are not removed with your private profile. Do not submit private or personalized product links.

Place and conditions lookups send the destination query and relevant coordinates and dates to Open-Meteo. Shared lookup results are cached without your account identifier for six hours for forecasts or up to 30 days for historical conditions. These caches may include the queried destination and dates.

Google Sheets imports fetch a spreadsheet you have made available through its link. Sign-in does not grant access to private spreadsheets. Imported information becomes part of your profile when you choose to save it.

Google provides sign-in and web fonts. These requests are subject to Google’s privacy policy. Hosting is subject to Cloudflare’s privacy policy. These providers may process information outside your country.

Export, correction, and deletion

You can edit your information in the planner and export your profile as JSON from the Trips screen. Profile settings include a permanent-deletion action with a confirmation and an export option.

Once deletion is accepted, access to that profile is revoked, including other existing sessions. Removal of stored profile copies is retried in the background. If cleanup has not finished, the app shows “deletion pending.” Interrupted storage operations can delay confirmation; we do not promise immediate erasure of every physical copy. Your local copy remains available for export while deletion is pending and is cleared when this browser confirms completion.

We retain minimal account-identifier, generation, and deletion-status records to prevent old sessions or uploads from restoring deleted data. Pending cleanup records remain until cleanup is resolved. Cloudflare’s recovery systems may retain recent control metadata separately. Signing in again creates a new, empty profile; it does not restore the deleted one.

Deletion cannot remotely erase offline devices, files you exported, shared product facts, or provider logs. If you contact us, we keep the correspondence needed to handle your request. Contact us if you need help accessing, correcting, or deleting information, including a deletion that remains pending.
